Daniel 10

Daniel's Vision of a Man



1 (Da 1:7; 1:21) In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message

was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar,

and the message was true and one of great conflict.

And he understood the message and had understanding of the vision.

2 (Ezr 9:4-5; Ne 1:4) In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks.

3 (Da 6:18; Mt 6:17) I ate no tasty food, no meat or wine entered my mouth,

nor did I anoint myself at all until three whole weeks were fulfilled.

4 (Ge 2:14; Eze 1:3) On the 24th day of the first month, as I was by the side

of the great river which is Tigris,

5 (Jer 10:9; Eze 9:2) I lifted up my eyes and looked and saw a certain man

clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with the fine gold of Uphaz.

6 (Rev 19:12; Eze 1:14) His body also was like beryl, and his face had

the appearance of lightning, and his eyes were like lamps of fire,

and his arms and his feet were like the gleam of polished bronze,

and the sound of his words like the sound of a tumult.

7 (Ac 9:7; Eze 12:18 ) I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, while the men

who were with me did not see the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them,

so that they fled to hide themselves.

8 (Da 7:28; 8:27) Therefore I was left alone and saw this great vision,

and there remained no strength in me, and my countenance grew deathly pale,

and I retained no strength.

9 (Da 8:18; Ge 15:12) Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard

the sound of his words, then I was in a deep sleep on my face with my face

toward the ground.



[1] In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto

Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the

time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding

of the vision.

[2] In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

[3] I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth,

neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

[4] And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the

side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;

[5] Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed

in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:

[6] His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of

lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in

colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a

multitude.

[7] And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not

the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide

themselves.

[8] Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there

remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into

corruption, and I retained no strength.

[9] Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his

words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.



Prophecies of Persia and Greece



10 (Jer 1:9; Da 8:18) But then a hand touched me, which set me on my knees

and on the palms of my hands.

11 (Eze 2:1; Da 8:16-17) He said to me, "O Daniel, a man greatly beloved,

understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have

been sent to you now." And when he had spoken this word to me,

I stood trembling.

12 (Ac 10:30-31; Da 9:20-23) Then he said to me, "Do not be afraid, Daniel.

For from the first day that you set your heart to understand this

and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard,

and I have come because of your words.

13 (Da 12:1; Jude 1:9; Rev 12:7) But the prince of the kingdom of Persia

withstood me for 21 days. So Michael, one of the chief princes,

came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

14 (Da 2:28; 8:26) Now I have come to make you understand what shall befall

your people in the latter days. For the vision is yet for many days."

15 (Eze 24:27; Lk 1:20) When he had spoken such words to me, I set my face

toward the ground, and I became mute.

16 (Isa 6:7; Da 8:15) Then one in the likeness of the sons of men

touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him

who stood before me, "O my lord, because of the vision, sorrows have

come upon me, and I have retained no strength.

17 (Ex 24:10-11; Isa 6:1-5) How can the servant of my lord talk

with you, my lord? And as for me, there remains no strength in me now,

nor is there any breath left in me."

18 (Da 10:16; Isa 35:3-4) Then again, the one having the appearance of a man

came and touched me, and he strengthened me.

19 (Jos 1:9; Jdg 6:23) He said, "O man, greatly beloved, do not fear.

Peace be unto you. Be strong and courageous!"

When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, "Let my lord speak,

for you have strengthened me."

20 (Da 8:21; 10:13) Then he said, "Do you understand why I have come to you?

But now I shall return to fight against the prince of Persia,

and when I have gone forth, then truly the prince of Greece will come.

21 (Da 10:13; 12:1; Jude 1:9) But I will show you what is inscribed

in the Scripture of Truth. Yet there is no one who stands firmly

with me against these forces, except Michael your prince.



[10] And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon

the palms of my hands.

[11] And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the

words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now

sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.

[12] Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that

thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy

God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

[13] But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty

days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I

remained there with the kings of Persia.

[14] Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in

the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

[15] And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the

ground, and I became dumb.

[16] And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my

lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before

me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have

retained no strength.

[17] For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as

for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there

breath left in me.

[18] Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man,

and he strengthened me,

[19] And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be

strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened,

and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

[20] Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I

return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the

prince of Grecia shall come.

[21] But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and

there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.



Daniel 11



The Kings of the South and the North



1 (Da 5:31; 9:1) "Also, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I, even I,

stood to confirm and to strengthen him.

2 (Da 8:26; 10:1) "And now I will tell you the truth. Truly, there shall stand

up yet three kings in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than all

of them; and by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up

all against the realm of Greece.

3 (Da 8:21; 11:16) A mighty king shall stand up who shall rule

with great dominion and do according to his will.

4 (Da 8:8; 8:22) When he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken

and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his

posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled.

For his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others besides them.

5 (Da 11:11; 11:14) "The king of the South shall be strong, as well

as one of his officials who shall be strong above him and have dominion.

His dominion shall be a great dominion.

6 (Da 11:13; 11:7) In the end of some years they shall join themselves

together. For the king's daughter of the South shall come to the king

of the North to make an agreement. But she shall not retain her position

of power, and neither he nor his power shall stand. But she shall be given up

with those who brought her and with him who fathered her and with him who

strengthened her in those times.

7 "But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his place,

who shall come with an army and shall enter the fortress of the king

of the North and shall deal against them and shall prevail.

8 (Isa 37:19; 46:1-2) And he shall also carry captive into Egypt their gods,

with their officials, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold.

And he shall continue more years than the king of the North,

9 who will enter the kingdom of the king of the South, but shall return

to his own land.

10 (Jer 46:7-8; 51:42) His sons shall wage war and assemble a multitude

of armed forces. One shall advance like a flood and pass through, and again

shall wage the war as far as his fortress.

11 (Da 8:7; 11:5) "The king of the South shall be moved with rage,

and shall go out and fight with him, with the king of the North,

who shall raise a great multitude; but that multitude shall be given

into his enemy's hand.

12 When he has taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up;

and he shall cast down many ten thousands, but he shall not be strengthened

by it.

13 (Da 4:16; 12:7) For the king of the North shall return and shall raise

a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain

years with a great army and with much equipment.

14 "In those times many shall stand up against the king of the South.

Also the ­robbers of your people shall exalt themselves to fulfill the vision,

but they shall fall.

15 (Jer 6:6; Eze 4:2) Then the king of the North shall come

and set up a siege mound and capture a fortified city.

And the forces of the South shall not withstand him; neither shall his chosen

best troops have strength to resist.

16 (Da 8:9; 11:3) But he who comes against him shall do according to his own

will, and none shall stand before him. And he shall stand in the Pleasant

Land, which shall be consumed by his hand.

17 (2Ki 12:17; Eze 4:3) He shall also set his face to enter with the strength

of his whole kingdom, bringing with him a proposal of peace which he shall

put into effect. And he shall give him the daughter of women to corrupt it.

But she shall not stand on his side or be for him.

18 (Hos 12:14; Jer 2:10) After this he shall turn his face to the coastlands

and shall capture many. But a commander shall put a stop to his reproach

against him, and he shall repay him for his reproach.

19 (Ps 37:36; Eze 26:21) Then he shall turn his face toward the fortresses

of his own land, but shall stumble and fall and not be found any more.

20 (Isa 60:17) "Then one shall stand up in his place who shall send

an oppressor in the glory of his kingdom. But within a few days he shall

be destroyed, but not in anger or in battle.

21 (Da 8:25; 11:34) "In his place a vile person shall stand up,

to whom they shall not give the honor of the kingdom. But he shall come

in peaceably and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

22 (Da 11:10; 8:10-11) A flood of armies shall be swept away before him

and be broken, and the prince of the covenant as well.

23 (Da 8:25) After the league is made with him, he shall work deceitfully,

and he shall come up and shall become strong with a small force of people.

24 He shall enter peaceably even upon the richest places of the realm.

And he shall do that which his fathers have not done,

nor his fathers' fathers. He shall distribute among them the plunder

and spoil and riches. And he shall plan his devices against the strongholds,

but only for a time.

25 "He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South

with a great army. And the king of the South shall be stirred up to battle

with a very great and mighty army. But he shall not stand, for schemes

shall be devised against him.

26 (Da 11:10) Indeed, those who eat his choice food shall destroy him,

and his army shall overflow, and many shall fall down slain.

27 (Ps 12:2; 64:6) As for both of these kings, their hearts shall plan

on mischief, and they shall speak lies to one another at one table.

But it shall not prosper, for the end shall yet be at the appointed time.

28 While turning back to his land with great wealth, his heart shall be

against the holy covenant. He shall wage war and turn back to his own land.

[11] And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come

forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set

forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand.

[12] And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted

up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be

strengthened by it.

[13] For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude

greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a

great army and with much riches.

[14] And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the

south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish

the vision; but they shall fall.

[15] So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the

most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither

his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand.

[16] But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and

none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which

by his hand shall be consumed.

[17] He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole

kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him

the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side,

neither be for him.

[18] After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many:

but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to

cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him.

[19] Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: but he

shall stumble and fall, and not be found.

[20] Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the

kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in

battle.

[21] And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not

give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain

the kingdom by flatteries.

[22] And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him,

and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant.

[23] And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he

shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people.

[24] He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province;

and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers'

fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea,

and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.

[25] And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the

south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to

battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they

shall forecast devices against him.

[26] Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and

his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain.

[27] And both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall

speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall be

at the time appointed.

[28] Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart

shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to

his own land.



Blasphemies of the Northern King



29 "At the appointed time he shall return and come into the south,

but this latter time shall not be as the former.

30 (Ge 10:4; Nu 24:24) For the ships of Kittim shall come against him.

Therefore he shall be grieved and return and have indignation against

the holy covenant and take action. He shall even return and show regard

to those who forsake the holy covenant.

31 (Da 12:11; 9:27; Mt 24:15) "His armies shall rise up and desecrate

the sanctuary fortress. They shall abolish the daily sacrifice

and set up the abomination that makes desolate.

32 (Mic 5:7-9; Zec 9:13-16) By flatteries he will corrupt those who act

wickedly toward the covenant. But the people who know their God will

be strong and take action.

33 (Mal 2:7; Mt 24:9) "The wise among the people shall instruct many.

Yet for many days they shall fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity

and by destruction.

34 (Mt 7:15; Ro 16:18) Now when they fall, they shall be given a little help.

But many shall cleave to them with flatteries.

35 (Zec 13:9; Dt 8:16) Some of the wise will fall, so that they may be purged,

purified, and made white,until the time of the end,

for it is still for the appointed time.

36 (Dt 10:17; 2Th 2:4) "The king shall do according to his will. And he shall

exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak

blasphemous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper

until the indignation is accomplished. For that which is determined

shall be done.

37 He shall regard neither the gods of his fathers, nor the desire of women,

nor regard any god; for he shall magnify himself above them all.

38 But instead he shall honor the god of forces, a god whom his fathers

did not know. He shall honor him with gold and silver,

and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

39 Thus he shall do in the strongest of fortresses with a foreign god.

He shall give great honor to those who acknowledge him,

and shall cause them to rule over the many and shall divide the land for gain.



[29] At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but

it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.

[30] For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be

grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so

shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that

forsake the holy covenant.

[31] And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary

of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place

the abomination that maketh desolate.

[32] And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by

flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do

exploits.

[33] And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they

shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.

[34] Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but

many shall cleave to them with flatteries.

[35] And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to

purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is

yet for a time appointed.

[36] And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt

himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous

things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be

accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

[37] Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of

women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

[38] But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his

fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious

stones, and pleasant things.

[39] Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he

shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule

over many, and shall divide the land for gain.



Conquests of the Northern King



40 (Isa 5:28; Da 11:10) "At the time of the end the king of the South shall

push at him. But the king of the North shall come against him like

a whirlwind, with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships.

And he shall enter the countries and shall overflow them and pass over.

41 (Jer 48:47; 49:6) He shall enter also the Pleasant Land,

and many countries shall be overthrown. But these shall escape

out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the sons of Ammon.

42 Then he shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land

of Egypt shall not escape.

43 (2Ch 12:3; Na 3:9) But he shall have power over the hidden treasures

of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt.

And the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

44 But reports from the east and from the north shall trouble him.

Therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many.

45 He shall pitch the tabernacles of his palace between the seas

in the beautiful holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end,

and no one shall help him.



[40] And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him:

and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with

chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into

the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

[41] He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be

overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab,

and the chief of the children of Ammon.

of Egypt shall not escape.

[43] But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and

therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make

away many.

[45] And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in

the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall

help him.



Daniel 12



The Prophecy of the End Times



1 (Jer 30:7; Da 10:13; Mt 24:21) "And at that time Michael

shall stand up, the great prince who stands guard over the sons

of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble such

as never was since there was a nation even to that time.

And at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who shall be

found written in the book.

2 (Isa 26:19; Mt 25:46) Many of those who sleep in the dust

of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, but others to shame

and everlasting contempt.

3 (Da 11:33; Mt 13:43; Da 11:35) Those who are wise shall shine

as the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who turn the many

to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.

4 (Da 12:9; Rev 22:10; Da 8:17) But you, Daniel, shut up the words

and seal the book until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro,

and knowledge shall increase."

5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others,

the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side

of the bank of the river.

6 (Eze 9:2; Da 8:13) One said to the man clothed in linen, who was

above the water of the river,

"How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?"

7 (Da 7:25; 8:24; Rev 12:14) And I heard the man clothed in linen,

who was over the water of the river, when he held up his right hand

and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever

that it would be for a time, times, and half a time.

[Or a year, two years, and half a year.]

And when they finish shattering the power of the holy people,

all these things shall be finished.

8 As for me, I heard, but I could not understand. So I said,

"My lord, what shall be the result of these things?"

9 (Da 12:4) And he said, "Go your way, Daniel. For these words are closed up

and sealed until the time of the end.

10 (Da 11:35; Rev 22:11; Hos 14:9) Many shall be purified and made white

and tried. But the wicked shall do wickedly, and none of the wicked shall

understand, but the wise shall understand.

11 (Da 11:31; 9:27; Mt 24:15) "From the time that the daily sacrifice

shall be taken away and the abomination that makes desolate set up,

there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.

12 Blessed is he who waits and comes to the 1335 days.

13 (Rev 14:13) "But as for you, go your way until the end.

Then you shall rest and rise again for your lot at the end of the age."



Daniel 12

[1] And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth

for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such

as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that

time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in

the book.

[2] And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some

this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank

of the river.

[6] And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of

the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?

[7] And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the

river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and

sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an

half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy

people, all these things shall be finished.

[8] And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be

the end of these things?

[9] And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed

till the time of the end.

[10] Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall

do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall

understand.

[11] And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the

abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two

hundred and ninety days.

[12] Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred

and five and thirty days.

[13] But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in

thy lot at the end of the days.

I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

this place all the vessels of the house of the Lord that Nebuchadnezzar

king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon.

4 (Jer 22:24; 24:1) And I will bring back to this place Jeconiah

the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah

who went into Babylon, says the Lord, for I will break the yoke

I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations,

the prophet, "Listen now, Hananiah. The Lord has not sent you,

and you make this people trust in a lie.

taught rebellion against the Lord."

The factories of Victorian England were dark places. Fatalities were high,

and workers often lived in poverty. "How can the working man cultivate

ideals," George Cadbury asked, "when his home is a slum?" And so he built a

new kind of factory for his expanding chocolate business, one that benefited

his workers.



The result was Bournville, a village of more than three hundred homes with

sports fields, playgrounds, schools, and churches for Cadbury's workers and

their families. They were paid good wages and offered medical care, all

because of Cadbury's faith in Christ.



Jesus teaches us to pray for God's will to be done "on earth as it is in

heaven" (Matthew 6:10). This prayer can help us imagine, as Cadbury did, what

our workplaces would be like under God's rule, where our "daily bread" is

earned and our "debtors" forgiven (vv. 11-12). As employees, it means working

with "all your heart . . . for the Lord" (Colossians 3:23). As employers, it

means giving staff what's "right and fair" (4:1). Whatever our role, whether

paid or voluntary, it means tending to the well-being of those we serve with.



Like George Cadbury, let's imagine how things could be different if God were

in charge of our neighbourhoods and workplaces. Because when He is, people

flourish.

"Is Christianity Reasonable?" Linda Wanted to Know. "I've heard all my life

that faith is a crutch, an invention of weak minds to assure them

of some order in the world."

Linda was not alone in her objection; thinking people for generations

have been asking themselves the same question.

God is not intimidated by our questions; in fact, he confronts the issue

head-on in the Scriptures. "Let us reason together," the Lord invites.

Even according to the most basic of human reasoning,

faith is a reasonable alternative , a rational choice for a thinking person.

God indicates in his Word that confession and forgiveness are "reasonable".

"Think!" God says. "You sin, and you know it. You are not even able to be

true to your own principles. You cannot deal with your sin by will power

or effort. But I can deal with it! I can forgive it - and I will"

We cannot come to faith in God through Christ by intellect alone, of course.

Our spirits much reach out in faith, beyond what we can see. But intellect

supports faith; trusting in Christ is an eminently rational decision.

In Deut 30:1-20 , God set before the people a choice: Life or Death, blessing

or cursing. "Choose Life!" he tells them. We have the same choice.

The ultimate decision is thus simplified, the 'rational' alternative becomes

clear. We can choose death, by attempting to control our own destinies ,

or life, by giving ourselves fully into the hand of the Master.

Halifax is the centre of Muslim activity for the Province of Nova Scotia

with at least 10 Islamic centres (mosques) and musallas

(prayer locations, especially for Friday prayer). And there are other mosques

in Chebucto, Kearney Lake, Dartmouth, Bedford and Truro.



Though the original community of Muslims was primarily composed of

newcomers from Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, continued immigration

has further diversified this community. Anf it is said thay Arabic

is the second most spoken language in Halifax.



while conservative estimates place the number of Muslims at almost 15000

in 2014, the Imama of a primary Halifax mosque estimates their population

somewhere between 25000 to 30000.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.



Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

of whom Daniel was first, so that the officials might give accounts

to them and the king not suffer loss.

3 (Da 5:12; 5:14) Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents

and officials because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king

thought to set him over the whole realm.

4 (Ge 43:18; Jdg 14:4) Then the presidents and officials sought

to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom,

but they could find no occasion or fault because he was faithful;

nor was there any error or fault found in him.

Daniel Saved From the Lions



17 (La 3:53) A stone was brought and laid upon the mouth of the den,

and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords

so that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

18 (Est 6:1; Da 2:1) Then the king went to his palace

and passed the night fasting, and no instruments of music

were brought before him. And his sleep fled from him.

19 Then the king arose very early in the morning

and went in haste to the den of lions.

20 (Da 3:17; 6:16; Ge 18:14) When he came to the den, he cried

with a voice full of sorrow to Daniel. And the king spoke

and said to Daniel, "Daniel, servant of the living God,

has your God whom you serve continually been able

to deliver you from the lions?"

22 (Da 3:28; 2Ti 4:17) My God has sent His angel and has shut the lions'

The Prayer of Daniel



1 (Da 11:1) In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus of the lineage

of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans,

2 (2Ch 36:21; Jer 29:10) in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, observed

in the books the number of the years which were specified by the word

of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet for the accomplishment of the desolations

of Jerusalem, that is, seventy years.

3 I set my face toward the Lord God to seek by prayer and supplications

with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.

4 (Dt 7:9; Ne 9:32) And I prayed to the Lord my God, and made my confession,

and said,

"Alas, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping His covenant

and mercy to those who love Him, and to those who keep His commandments.

5 (Ps 106:6; Isa 64:5-7) We have sinned and have committed iniquity

and have done wickedly and have rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts

and from Your judgments.

6 (2Ch 36:15-16; Ezr 9:7) We have not listened to Your servants the prophets,

who spoke in Your name to our kings, our officials, and our fathers,

and to all the people of the land.

we might turn from our iniquities and give attention to Your truth.

which He does, but we have not obeyed His voice.

15 (Ne 9:10; Ex 6:1) "Now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people

out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made Yourself a name,

even to this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

16 (Zec 8:3; Ps 31:1O) Lord, according to all Your righteousness,

I beseech You, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city

Jerusalem, Your holy mountain, because for our sins and for the iniquities

of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach to all who

are around us.

and his supplications, and for Your sake, O Lord, cause Your face to shine

day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

The Seventy Weeks



20 (Ps 145:18; Isa 58:9) While I was speaking and praying and confessing

my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication

before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God,

21 (Da 8:16; Lk 1:19) indeed, while I was speaking in prayer,

the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning,

being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time

of the evening oblation.

22 (Da 8:16; 10:21) He informed me and talked with me, and said,

"Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.

23 (Da 10:11-12; 10:19) At the beginning of your supplications the command

went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved.

Therefore understand the matter and consider the vision:

24 (Eze 4:6; Nu 14:34) "Seventy weeks have been determined for your people

and upon your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end

of sins, and to make atonement for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting

righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint

the Most Holy Place.

25 (Ezr 4:24; Isa 9:6) “Know therefore and understand that from the going

forth of the command to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem

until the Prince Messiah shall be seven weeks, and 62 weeks.

Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son,

or your daughter, or your male servant, or your female servant,

or your livestock, or your sojourner who is within your gates.

the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day.

Have you ever been in the middle of telling a story and then stopped, stuck

on a detail like a name or date you couldn't recall? We often chalk it up to

age, believing that memory fades with time. But recent studies no longer

support that view. In fact, they indicate our memory isn't the problem; it's

our ability to retrieve those memories. Without a regular rehearsal of some

kind, memories become harder to access.



One of the ways to improve that retrieval ability is by regularly scheduled

actions or experiences of recalling a certain memory. Our Creator God knew

this, so He instructed the children of Israel to set aside one day a week for

worship and rest. In addition to the physical rest that comes from such a

respite, we gain an opportunity for mental training, to recall that

"For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that

in them is," (Exodus 20:11). It helps us to remember there is a God, and it's

not us.



In the rush of our lives, we sometimes lose our grip on the memories of what

God has done for us and for others. We forget who keeps close watch over our

lives and who promises His presence when we feel overwhelmed and alone. A

break from our routine provides an opportunity for that needed "retrieval

practice"-an intentional decision to stop and remember our God and

"forget not all his benefits" (Psalm 103:2).

"If God already knows everything about me, everything I've done,

then why do I need to confess it?" Grant struggled with a common

dilemma for many Christians. Indeed, God, knew all his sin - much

better than Grant did himself. But Grant needed to confess,

not for God's benefit, but for his own. Grant needed to agree with God

that his sin was wrong, and put himself in a position to receive God's

grace in forgiveness.

1 John 1:9 make the process quit clear. We confess,

and God forgives and cleanses. Many of us, however, want to take on

God's part as well. We confess, agreeing with God that our sin is wrong.

But then we proceed to try to 'clean up our act,'bargaining with God,

promising that if he will forgive us just this once,

we won't ever to it again.

The problem is, we can never keep such a promise.

We probably will do it again, and then we are back where we started,

begging for forgiveness, and trying once more to cleanse

ourselves for our unrighteousness.

God offers freedom from such futile performance. He says, "Just confess.

Agree that you sinned. Submit yourself to me. Then I'll take over from there."

God's grace does not give us freedom to keep on sinning, of course - we need

to cooperate with the work of his Spirit in our lives and do all we can

to avoid sin. But we do not have to beg God for forgiveness - forgiveness

is offered to us freely.

We do not have to clean up out act before God will accept us; God can make

the necessary changes in our lives. When we confess, submit ourselves to God,

and allow him to work within us, he is able both to forgive us and to cleanse

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

to you, and break off your sins by righteousness and your iniquities

by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a lengthening

of your prosperity.



[19] Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour,

and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let

not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar

answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the

interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

[20] The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height

reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

[21] Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat

for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches

the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:

[22] It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness

is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

[23] And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from

heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump

of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in

the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and

let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over

him;

[24] This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most

High, which is come upon my lord the king:

[25] That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the

beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they

shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee,

till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth

it to whomsoever he will.

[26] And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy

kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the

heavens do rule.

[27] Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break

off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the

poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.



The Dream Is Fulfilled



28 (Nu 23:19; Zec 1:6) All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.

29 At the end of twelve months he walked on the roof of the palace

of the kingdom of Babylon.

30 (Isa 37:24-25) The king spoke, saying, "Is this not Babylon the Great

that I myself have built as a royal residence by my mighty power

and for the honor of my majesty?"

31 (Lk 12:20) While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice

from heaven: "O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom

has departed from you!

32 (Da 5:21) And you shall be driven away from men, and your dwelling

shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be given grass

to eat as oxen, and seven periods of time shall pass over

you until you know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men

and gives it to whomever He wills."

33 (Da 4:25; 4:32) Immediately the thing was fulfilled concerning

Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men and ate grass as oxen,

and his body was wet with the dew of heaven until his hairs were grown

like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws.



[28] All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

[29] At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of

Babylon.

[30] The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built

for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of

my majesty?

[31] While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven,

saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed

from thee.

[32] And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the

beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven

times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the

kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

[33] The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was

driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the

dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his

nails like birds' claws.



Nebuchadnezzar Praises God



34 (Jer 10:10; Da 12:7) But at the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar,

lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me,

and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored Him who lives forever:

For His dominion is an everlasting dominion,

and whose kingdom endures from generation to generation.

35 (Ps 115:3; 135:6; Job 42:2) And all the inhabitants of the earth

are reputed as nothing;

and He does according to His will

in the army of heaven

and among the inhabitants of the earth.

And no one can stay His hand or say to Him,

"What have You done?"

36 (Pr 22:4; 2Ch 33:12-13) At the same time my reason returned to me.

And for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me.

And my counselors and my lords sought me out. Then I was established

in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.

37 (Dt 32:4; Ex 18:11) Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol

and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true

and His ways just, and those who walk in pride He is able to abase.



[34] And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto

heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most

High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is

an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

[35] And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he

doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the

inhabitants

of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

[36] At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my

kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellers and

my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent

majesty was added unto me.

[37] Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven,

all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in

pride he is able to abase.



Daniel 7

Daniel's Vision of the Four Beasts



1 (Da 4:5; 5:1) In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon,

Daniel had a dream and visions of his mind while on his bed.

Then he wrote the dream and told the sum of the matters.

2 (Rev 7:1) Daniel spoke and said: I saw in my vision by night

the four winds of the heaven striving upon the Mediterranean Sea.

3 (Rev 13:1; Da 7:17) Four great beasts came up from the sea,

diverse from one another.

4 (Jer 4:7; Eze 17:3) The first was like a lion and had eagle's wings.

I watched until its wings were plucked and it was lifted up from the earth

and made to stand on the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

5 (Da 2:39) Another beast appeared, a second, like a bear, and it raised

itself up on one side, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth.

And they said to it, "Arise, devour much flesh."

6 (Rev 13:2) After this I looked and there was another, like a leopard,

which had on its back four wings of a fowl. The beast also had four heads.

And dominion was given to it.

7 (Rev 12:3; 13:1) After this I saw in the visions at night a fourth beast,

dreadful and terrible, and exceedingly strong. And it had great iron teeth.

It devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the rest with its feet.

And it was different from all the beasts that were before it,

and it had ten horns.

8 (Rev 13:5-6; Ps 12:3) I considered the horns, when there came up among

them another little horn before whom three of the first horns were plucked

up by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of man,

and a mouth speaking great things.



[1] In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and

visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum

of the matters.

[2] Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the

four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

[3] And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by

the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a

mouth speaking great things.



The Ancient of Days Reigns



9 (Rev 1:14; Ps 90:2) I watched until

the thrones were cast down

and the Ancient of Days was seated,

whose garment was white as snow,

and the hair of His head like the pure wool.

His throne was like the fiery flame,

and its wheels as burning fire.

10 (Rev 5:11; Dt 33:2) A fiery stream issued

and came out from before Him.

A thousand thousands ministered to Him;

and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.

The judgment was set,

and the books were opened.

11 (Rev 19:20; 20:10) Then I watched because of the sound of the boastful

words which the horn was speaking. I watched even until the beast was slain,

and his body destroyed and given to the burning flame.

12 As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away;

yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

13 (Mt 26:64; Rev 1:7) I saw in the night visions, and there was one like

a Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven. He came to the Ancient of Days

and was presented before Him.

14 (Da 7:27; Rev 11:15) There was given to Him dominion, and glory,

and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.

His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away,

and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.



[9] I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did

[13] I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came

with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought

him near before him.

[14] And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all

people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an

everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which

shall not be destroyed.



The Interpretation of the Dream



15 (Da 7:28) I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body,

and the visions of my head troubled me.

16 (Rev 5:5; 7:13-14) I approached one of those who were standing by

and asked him the truth of all this.

So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things.

17 "These great beasts, which are four, are four kings which shall arise

out of the earth.

18 (Rev 20:4; Isa 60:12-14) But the saints of the Most High shall take

the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever."

19 (Da 7:7) Then I desired to know the truth of the fourth beast,

which was different from all the others, exceeding dreadful,

whose teeth were of iron and its nails of bronze, and which devoured,

broke in pieces, and stamped the rest with its feet;

20 (Da 7:8) and of the ten horns that were in its head, and of the other

which came up, and before whom three fell, even of that horn that had eyes

and a mouth that spoke boastful words, whose look was more stout

than its fellows.

21 (Da 8:24; 12:7) I beheld, and the same horn was warring with the saints

and prevailing against them

22 (Da 7:18; 1Co 6:2-3) until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment

was passed in favor of the saints of the Most High,

and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom.

23 (Da 2:40) Thus he said: "The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom

upon earth, which shall be different from all kingdoms, and shall devour

the whole earth and shall tread it down and break it in pieces.

24 (Da 7:20; Rev 13:1) The ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings

that shall arise; and another shall rise after them, and he shall be

different from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

25 (Da 12:7; 2:21; Rev 12:14) He shall speak words against the Most High

and shall wear out the saints of the Most High and plan to change times

and law. And they shall be given into his hand until a time

and times and half a time. Or for a year, two years, and half a year.

26 "But the court shall sit for judgment, and they shall take away

his dominion, to consume and to destroy it forever.

27 (Da 2:44; Ps 22:27; 72:11) Then the kingdom and dominion,

and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven,

shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High,

whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

and all dominions shall serve and obey Him."

28 (Lk 2:19; 2:51) At this point the matter ended. As for me, Daniel,

my thoughts troubled me much, and my countenance changed in me;

but I kept the matter in my heart.

[20] And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came

up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth

that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

[21] I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed

against them;

[22] Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of

the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

[23] Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,

[26] But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to

consume and to destroy it unto the end.

[27] And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under

the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most

High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall

serve and obey him.

[28] Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations

much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the

matter in my heart.

Daniel 8



Daniel's Vision of a Ram and a Goat



1 (Da 7:1) In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision

appeared to me, even to me Daniel, after that which appeared to me

at the first.

2 (Ge 10:22; Ne 1:1) I saw in the vision, and while I was looking,

I was at Susa in the palace which is in the province of Elam.

And I saw in the vision that I was by the canal of Ulai.

3 (Da 8:20; 10:5) Then I lifted up my eyes and looked,

and there stood before the river a ram which had two horns,

and the two horns were high. But one was higher than the other,

and the higher one came up last.

4 (Da 11:16; 8:7) I saw the ram pushing westward and northward and southward,

so that no animal might stand before him; nor was there any that could

deliver out of his hand, but he did according to his will and became great.

5 (Da 8:21; 8:8; 11:3) As I was considering this, suddenly a male goat came

from the west across the face of the whole earth and did not touch the ground.

And the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

6 He came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing

before the river, and ran to him in the fury of his power.

7 (Da 7:7; 11:11) I saw him come close to the ram, and he was moved

with rage against him, and struck the ram and broke his two horns.

And there was no power in the ram to stand before him,

but he cast him down to the ground and stamped on him.

And there was none who could deliver the ram out of his hand.

8 (Da 7:2; 2Ch 26:16) Therefore the male goat grew very great.

And when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and four conspicuous horns

came up in its place toward the four winds of heaven.



[1] In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto

me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.

[2] And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at

Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a

vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.

[3] Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood beforethe

river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was

higher than the other, and the higher came up last.

[4] I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no

beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out

of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.

[5] And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the

face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a

notable horn between his eyes.

[6] And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had there seen

standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.

[7] And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler

against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no

power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground,

and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of

his hand.

[8] Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the

great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four

winds of heaven.



The Little Horn



9 (Da 11:16; Ps 48:2) Out of one of them came a little horn, which grew

exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east,

and toward the Pleasant Land.

10 (Isa 14:13; Rev 12:4) It grew great, even to the host of heaven.

And it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground

and stamped upon them.

11 (Da 11:31; 12:11) Indeed, he magnified himself even to the Prince

of the host, and from Him the daily sacrifice was taken away,

and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.

12 (Isa 59:14; Da 11:28) Because of rebellion, an army was given

to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifice; and it cast truth to the ground.

It practiced this and prospered.

13 (Da 4:13; Lk 21:24) Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint

said to that certain saint which spoke, "How long shall be the vision

concerning the daily sacrifice and the transgression of desolation,

the giving of both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?"

14 (Da 8:26; 12:11) And he said to me, "For 2300 evenings and mornings.

Then the sanctuary shall be cleansed properly."



[9] And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding

great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.

[10] And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some

of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.

[11] Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him

the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast

down.

[12] And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of

transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised,

and prospered.

[13] Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that

certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily

sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary

and the host to be trodden under foot?

[14] And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then

shall the sanctuary be cleansed.



Gabriel Interprets the Vision



15 (Da 10:16; 10:18) When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought

for the meaning. Then there before me stood one who had the appearance

of a man.

16 (Lk 1:19; 1:26) I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai,

which called, and said, "Gabriel, make this man understand the vision."

17 (Da 8:19; Rev 1:17) So he came near where I stood. And when he came,

I was afraid and fell upon my face; but he said to me,

"Understand, son of man, that the vision deals with the time of the end."

18 (Da 10:18; Eze 2:2) Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep

with my face toward the ground. But he touched me and set me upright.

19 (Da 8:15-17; Hab 2:3) He said, "Listen, I will make you know what shall be

in the final period of the indignation, for the end shall be

at the appointed time.

20 (Da 8:3) The ram which you saw having two horns

represents the kings of Media and Persia.

21 (Da 10:20; 11:3) The rough goat is the king of Greece, and the great horn

that is between his eyes is the first king.

22 Now the broken horn and the four horns that stood up in its place

are four kingdoms that shall stand up out of his nation,

but not with his power.

23 "In the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached

their limit, a king will arise, having a fierce countenance,

skilled in intrigue.

24 (Da 8:12; 7:25; Rev 17:17) His power shall be mighty,

but not by his own power. And he shall destroy wonderfully

and shall prosper and practice his will

and shall destroy the mighty men and the holy people.

25 (Da 8:11; Job 34:20) By his cunning, he shall cause deceit to succeed

under his hand, and he shall magnify himself in his heart. He shall destroy

many in a time of peace. He shall also rise up against the Prince of princes;

but he shall be broken, not by human hands.

26 (Da 10:1; 10:14; 12:4) "And the vision of the evenings and the mornings,

which was told, is true. Therefore shut up the vision,

for it deals with many days in the future."

27 (Da 7:28; Hab 3:16) Then I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for some days.

Afterward I rose up again and did the king's business.

So I was astonished at the vision, but there was none to explain it.



[15] And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and

sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the

[17] So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell

the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.

[19] And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last

end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.

[20] The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and

Persia.

[21] And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is

between his eyes is the first king.

[22] Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms

shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.

[23] And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are

come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark

sentences, shall stand up.

[24] And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall

destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the

mighty and the holy people.

[25] And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his

hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy

many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be

broken without hand.

[26] And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true:

wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.

[27] And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up,

and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none

understood it.



Daniel 5



Belshazzar's Feast



1 (Est 1:3; Isa 22:12) Belshazzar the king made a great feast

for a thousand of his lords and drank wine before the thousand.

2 (Da 1:2; 2Ki 24:13) While he tasted the wine, Belshazzar commanded

that they bring in the golden and silver vessels which

his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple which was in Jerusalem,

so that the king, and his officials, his wives,

and his concubines might drink from them.

3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple

of the house of God which was at Jerusalem. And the king and his officials,

his wives and his concubines drank from them.

4 (Da 5:23; Hab 2:19) They drank wine and praised the gods of gold

and of silver, of bronze, of iron, of wood, and of stone.



[1] Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and

drank wine before the thousand.

[2] Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and

silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple

which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his

concubines, might drink therein.

[3] Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple

of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes,

his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.

[4] They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass,

of iron, of wood, and of stone.



The Writing on the Wall



5 (Da 4:31) Immediately fingers of a man's hand appeared

and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall

of the king's palace. And the king saw the back of the hand that wrote.

6 (Da 7:28; Ps 69:23) Then the king's countenance was changed,

and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins

were loosed, and his knees struck against one another.

Daniel Interprets the Writing



13 (Da 2:25; 5:11) Then Daniel was brought in before the king.

And the king spoke and said to Daniel, "Are you that Daniel

who is one of the sons of the captivity of Judah, whom the king

my father brought out of Judah? 14Now I have heard of you,

that the Spirit of God is in you; and that light, and understanding,

and excellent wisdom have been found in you.

have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing

the interpretation of the matter.

Mene:Meaning to number. God has numbered your kingdom and put an end to it.

On September 11, 2023-the twenty-second anniversary of the attacks against the

United States-a stunning double rainbow graced the skies above New York City.

Home to the former Twin Towers, this city suffered the greatest losses in the

attacks. More than two decades later, the double rainbow brought a sense of

hope and healing to those who were there to see it. A video clip of the moment

seemed to capture the rainbows emanating from the site

of the World Trade Center itself.



Rainbows in the sky have brought an assurance of God's faithfulness since the

days of Noah. In the wake of God's judgment of sin which resulted in

unimaginable destruction, He set the colorful beacon as a visual reminder of

"the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature"

(Genesis 9:16). After fourty dark days of rain and months of flooding

(7:17-24), one can only imagine how welcome the rainbow-"the sign of the

covenant"-must have been to Noah and his family (9:12-13). It was a reminder

of God's faithfulness that "never again will there be a flood to destroy

the earth" (v. 11).



When we face dark days and tragic losses-whether due to natural disaster,

physical or emotional pain, or the plight of disease-let's look to God for

hope in the midst of it. Even if we don't catch a glimpse of His rainbow in

those moments, we can be assured of His faithfulness to His promises.

Marcy was afraid of the dark. As a child she slept with a nightlight on,

and even she matured, she still had a fear of dark places.

When she was at home alone, she kept all the lights on,

and a small lamp at her bedside glowed through the night.

The psalmist David reflects that common fear of darkness when he says

"The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?"

David does not say, "The Lord brings light," but "The Lord is my light".

God is the source of understanding and security in our lives.

He is the One who can expose and deal with our fears.

When we are afraid - afraid of losing a job or a loved one,

afraid of making mistakes, afraid of being hurt, afraid of what others may

say about us - we can turn to the Lord who can handle our fears.

He is a "stronghold", a fortress of protection around us,

and in him we are safe.

Often we turn to other places for our security - to the bank account,

to a spouse or loved one, to the approval of the world.

We mistakenly think that these sources can provide a foundation of defence

against uncertainty of life. But when we find that people disappoint us, money

loses its value, and the praise of others is fleeting,

we must turn again to the true source of security, God alone.

Though the original community of Muslims was primarily composed of

newcomers from Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, continued immigration

has further diversified this community. Anf it is said thay Arabic

is the second most spoken language in Halifax.



while conservative estimates place the number of Muslims at almost 15000

in 2014, the Imama of a primary Halifax mosque estimates their population

somewhere between 25000 to 30000.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

"What does this mean?"

25 (Da 1:6; 6:13) Then in haste Arioch brought Daniel before the king

and said thus to him, "I have found a man of the captives of Judah

who can make known to the king the interpretation."

The Fiery Furnace



8 (Ezr 4:12-16; Est 3:8-9) Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near

and accused the Jews.

9 (Da 5:10; 6:6) They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, "O king,

live forever.

10 (Da 3:4-7; 6:12) You, O king, have made a decree, that every man

who hears the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery,

and dulcimer, and all kinds of music should fall down and worship

the golden image.

11 And whoever does not fall down and worship should be cast into

the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

12 (Da 2:49; 6:13) There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs

of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men,

O king, have not regarded you. They do not serve your gods

or worship the golden image which you have set up."

13 (Da 2:12; 3:19) Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. Then they brought these men

before the king.

14 (Isa 46:1; Jer 50:2) Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them, "Is it true,

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods

or worship the golden image which I have set up?

and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made,

you out of my hands?"

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king,

"O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer in this matter.

17 (Job 5:19; Ps 27:1-2) If it be so, our God whom we serve is able

to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us

out of your hand, O king.

18 (Isa 51:12-13) But even if He does not, be it known to you,

O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image

which you have set up."

[16] Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O

Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

[17] If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the

burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

[18] But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy

gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.



Protection in the Fiery Furnace



19 (Da 3:13; Lev 26:18) Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury,

and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach,

and Abednego. Therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat

the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.

20 He commanded the most mighty men in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach,

and Abednego and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

21 Then these men were bound in their trousers, their coats, and their hats,

and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning

fiery furnace.

22 (Ex 12:33) Therefore, because the king's commandment was urgent

and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire killed those men

who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

23 These three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound

into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 (Da 6:7) Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished,

and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said to his counselors,

"Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?"

They answered and said to the king, "True, O king."

25 (Isa 43:2; Job 1:6) He answered and said, "But I see four men loose

and walking in the midst of the fire, and they are unharmed.

And the form of the fourth is like the Son of God!"



[19] Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was

changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and

commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it

was wont to be heated.

[20] And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery

furnace.

[21] Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats,

and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery

furnace.

Nebuchadnezzar Praises God



26 (Da 3:17; 4:2) Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning

fiery furnace, and spoke, and said, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,

you servants of the Most High God, come out and come here!"

Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the midst of the fire.

27 (Heb 11:34; Isa 43:2) The officials, governors, and captains,

and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men upon

whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was a hair of their head singed,

neither were their coats changed, nor had the smell of fire even come

upon them.

28 (Ac 5:19; Ps 22:4-5) Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said,

"Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,

who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him.

They have defied the king's word, and yielded their bodies,

that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

29 (Da 2:5; 6:26-27) Therefore I make a decree that every people, nation,

and language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach,

Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall

be made a dunghill, because there is no other God

who can deliver in this way."

30 (Da 2:49) Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

in the province of Babylon.



[26] Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery

furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants

of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach,

and Abed-nego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

John 1:9-13



9 The true Light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

yet the world did not know Him.

12 Yet to all who received Him, He gave the power to become sons of God,

to those who believed in His name,

13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh,

nor of the will of man, but of God.



[9] That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into

the world.

[10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world

knew him not.

[11] He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

[12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the

sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

When Jay Speights of Rockville, Maryland, took a DNA test, nothing could have

prepared him for the results he received. They contained a big surprise-he was

a prince of the West African nation of Benin! Soon he boarded a plane and

visited the country. When he arrived, the royal family greeted and showered

him with a festive homecoming-dancing, singing, banners, and a parade.



Jesus came to earth as God's good news announcement. He went to His own

people, the nation of Israel, to give them the good news and to show them the

way out of darkness. Many received the message with apathy, rejecting the

"true light" (John 1:9) and refusing to accept Him as Messiah (v. 11). But

unbelief and apathy weren't universal among the people. Some people humbly and

gladly received Christ’s invitation, accepted Him as God’s eventual sacrifice

for sin, and believed in His name. A surprise awaited this faithful remnant.

He "to them gave he power to become the sons of God" (v. 12)

-to be royal children of His through spiritual rebirth.



When we turn from sin and darkness, receive Jesus, and believe in His name, we

discover we're children of God, adopted as royalty into His family. May we

enjoy the blessings as we live up to the responsibilities of being

the King's kids.

Col 1:13-14



13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has transferred us

into the kingdom of His dear Son,

[13] Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated

us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

[14] In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of

sins:



Most of us have no real concept of darkness. We live in a world illuminated

not only by sun, moon and start, bit by streetlights and electric lamps and,

when the power goes off, flashlights and candles. We resist the darkness

For the sighted, being in absolute darkness is a frightening experience.

The dark blots out everything; we can see nothing, not even our own bodies,

and we may become disoriented. The dark seems to press in upon us,

with an almost physical weight that oppresses.

Spiritual darkness is like that. Spiritual darkness,

the absence of light in Christ, is oppressive, weighing us down,

distorting our perceptions of realty.

We cannot judge clearly, for we cannot see at all.

Yet God breaks into our darkness, bringing his light - Jesus Christ,

The Light of the World. When the awareness of Christ invades our lives,

our eyes are opened and we can see for the first time. We see our sin,

God's grace, and the Way he has provided for escape from the dark.

And as we continue to walk in his light, we see even more - the need

for changes in our lives, and God's power to work those changes.

Discernment and wisdom come through his light,

and we understand spiritual truths we could never see before.

Paul says that God has 'rescued' us from darkness and brought us

into the light. We cannot, on our own, accomplish this rescue,

but god through Christ's sacrifice brings it about in us.

He is the light who illuminates our darkness.



Application



a) Many different kinds of spiritual darkness invade our lives

and keep us blind to the truth - sin, lack of understanding,

resistance to the Holy Spirit. What kinds of spiritual darkness

have I experienced?



b) What changes took place in me when I first 'came into the light'?

Halifax is the centre of Muslim activity for the Province of Nova Scotia

with at least 10 Islamic centres (mosques) and musallas

(prayer locations, especially for Friday prayer). And there are other mosques

in Chebucto, Kearney Lake, Dartmouth, Bedford and Truro.



Though the original community of Muslims was primarily composed of

newcomers from Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, continued immigration

has further diversified this community. Anf it is said thay Arabic

is the second most spoken language in Halifax.



while conservative estimates place the number of Muslims at almost 15000

in 2014, the Imama of a primary Halifax mosque estimates their population

somewhere between 25000 to 30000.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.



Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."



Peter's Speech at Pentecost

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."
