The Golden Calf



7 (Ex 14:11; 16:2) Remember, and do not forget how you provoked

the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that

you departed out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place,

you have been rebellious against the Lord.

8 Also in Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord

was angry enough with you to destroy you.

9 (Ex 34:28; 24:18; 24:12) When I went up into the mountain to receive

the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord made

with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

I did not eat bread or drink water.

10 (Ex 31:18; Dt 10:4) The Lord delivered to me two tablets of stone,

written with the finger of God, and on them was written all the words

which the Lord spoke to you at the mountain out of the midst of the fire

on the day of the assembly.

11 (Dt 9:9) At the end of forty days and forty nights,

the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

12 (Ex 32:7-8; Jdg 2:17) Then the Lord said to me,

"Arise, go down from here quickly, for your people whom you brought

out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They are quickly turned aside

from the way which I commanded them. They have made a molded image

for themselves."

13 (Dt 9:6; 10:16) Furthermore the Lord spoke to me, saying,

"I have seen this people, and indeed, they are a stubborn people.

14 (Dt 29:20; Ps 9:5) Let Me alone, so that I may destroy them

and blot out their name from under heaven,

and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they."

15 (Ex 19:18; Dt 4:11) So I returned and came down from the mount,

and the mount burned with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant

were in my two hands.

16 (Ex 32:19) I looked, and indeed, you had sinned against the Lord

your God and had made yourselves a molded calf. You had quickly

turned aside out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.

17 I took the two tablets and threw them out of my two hands

and broke them before your eyes.

18 (Ex 34:28; Dt 9:9) I fell down before the Lord, as at the first,

forty days and forty nights. I did not eat bread or drink water

because of all your sins which you committed, doing what was wicked

in the sight of the Lord to provoke Him to anger.

19 (Dt 10:10; Ex 32:14) For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure

with which the Lord was wrathful against you to destroy you.

But the Lord listened to me at that time also.

20 The Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him,

so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time.

21 (Ex 32:20) I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it

with fire, and crushed it, and ground it very small until it was as small

as dust. Then I threw the dust into the brook that descended down from

the mountain.

22 (Ex 17:7; Nu 11:34) Also at Taberah and at Massah

and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath.

23 (Ps 106:24-25) Likewise when the Lord sent you from Kadesh Barnea,

saying, "Go up and possess the land which I have given you,"

then you rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God,

and you did not believe Him or listen to His voice.

24 (Dt 31:27) You have been rebellious against the Lord from the day

I knew you.

25 (Dt 9:18) So I fell down before the Lord forty days and forty nights;

I fell down because the Lord had said He would destroy you.

26 (Ex 32:11-13) I prayed therefore to the Lord, and said,

"O Lord God, do not destroy Your people, Your inheritance,

which You have redeemed through Your greatness, which You have brought

out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

27 Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Do not look at the stubbornness of this people or at their wickedness

or their sin.

28 (Nu 14:16) Otherwise, the land from which You brought us may say,

'Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which

He promised them and because He hated them, He has brought them out

to slay them in the wilderness.'

29 (Dt 4:20; Ne 1:10) Yet they are Your people, Your inheritance,

whom You brought out by Your mighty power and by Your stretched-out arm."

thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted

[14] Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from

[26] I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy

people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy

greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

[27] Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the

stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:

[28] Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was

not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he

hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

[29] Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest

out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.



DEUTERONOMY 10



The Second Pair of Tablets



1 (Ex 34:1-2) At that time the Lord said to me, "Cut out for yourself

two tablets of stone like the first and come up to Me onto the mountain

and make an ark of wood for yourself.

2 I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets

which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark."

3 (Ex 34:4; 25:5) So I made an ark of acacia wood and cut out two tablets

of stone just like the first and went up onto the mountain

with the two tablets in my hand.

4 (Dt 9:10; Ex 34:28; Dt 18:16) He wrote on the tablets

just like the first writing, the Ten Commandments which the Lord spoke

to you at the mountain out of the midst of the fire

on the day of the assembly, and the Lord gave them to me.

5 (Ex 34:29; 40:20) I turned around and came down from the mountain

and put the tablets in the ark which I had made,

and there they are, just as the Lord commanded me.

6 (Nu 33:38) (The children of Israel set out from Beeroth

of the sons of Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried,

and his son Eleazar ministered in the priest's office in his place.

7 From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah,

a land of rivers of waters.

8 (Dt 18:5; 21:5) At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi

to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord

to minister to Him, and to bless in His name, to this day.

9 (Dt 18:1-2; Eze 44:28) Therefore, Levi has no portion or inheritance

with his brothers. The Lord is his inheritance,

just as the Lord your God promised him.)

10 (Ex 34:28; Dt 9:18-19) As for me, I stayed on the mountain

like the first time, forty days and forty nights, and the Lord

listened to me at that time also. The Lord was not willing to destroy you.

11 (Ex 32:34; 33:1) The Lord said to me, "Arise, take your journey before

the people, so that they may go in and possess the land which I swore

to give to their fathers."



[1] At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like

unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of

wood.

[2] And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables

unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine

[5] And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in

the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.

[6] And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the

children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and

Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his stead.

[8] At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of

the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and

[9] Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD

is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him.

[10] And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and

forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD

would not destroy thee.

[11] And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people,

that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers

to give unto them.

Remember the Lord Your God



1 (Dt 4:1; 5:32-6:3) You must carefully keep all the commandments

that I am commanding you today, so that you may live, and multiply,

and go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers.

2 (Am 2:10; Ex 15:25) You must remember that the Lord your God led

you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you,

and to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would

keep His commandments or not.

3 (Mt 4:4; Lk 4:4; Ex 16:2-3) He humbled you and let you suffer hunger,

and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know,

that He might make you know that man does not live by bread alone;

but man lives by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.

4 (Dt 29:5; Ne 9:21) Your clothing did not wear out on you, nor did

your feet swell these forty years.

5 (2Sa 7:14; Pr 3:12) You must also consider in your heart that,

as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.

6 (Dt 5:33) Therefore you must keep the commandments of the Lord your God,

to walk in His ways and to fear Him. 7For the Lord your God is bringing you

into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs that

flow out of valleys and hills,

8 a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates,

a land of olive oil and honey,

9 a land where you may eat bread without scarcity, in which you

will not lack anything, a land whose stones are iron, and

out of whose hills you may dig copper.

10 (Ps 103:2; Dt 6:11-12) When you have eaten and are full,

then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land

which He has given you.

11 Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping

His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I am

commanding you today.

12 (Pr 30:9; Dt 28:47) Otherwise, when you have eaten

and are full and have built and occupied good houses,

13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply,

and your silver and your gold multiply,

and all that you have multiplies,

14 (Ps 106:21; Dt 8:11) then your heart will become proud and you will

forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt,

from the house of slavery,

15 (Nu 20:11; 21:6) who led you through that great and terrible wilderness,

where there were fiery serpents and scorpions and drought,

where there was no water, who brought forth for you water

out of the rock of flint,

16 (Ex 16:15; Dt 8:3) who fed you in the wilderness with manna,

which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you

and that He might prove you, to do good for you in the end.

17 (Dt 9:4) Otherwise, you may say in your heart,

"My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth."

18 (Pr 10:22; Hos 2:8) But you must remember the Lord your God,

for it is He who gives you the ability to get wealth,

so that He may establish His covenant which He swore

to your fathers, as it is today.

19 (Dt 4:26) If you ever forget the Lord your God

and go after other gods and serve them and worship them,

then I testify against you today that you will surely perish.

20 (Da 9:11-12) Just like the nations which the Lord will

destroy before you, so shall you perish because you would

not be obedient to the voice of the Lord your God.

gotten me this wealth.

[18] But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee

power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto

thy fathers, as it is this day.

[19] And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk

after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you

this day that ye shall surely perish.

[20] As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye

perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your

God.



DEUTERONOMY 9



Not Because of Righteousness



1 (Dt 4:38; 1:28) Hear, O Israel! You are to cross over the Jordan today,

to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than you, great cities

fortified up to heaven,

2 (Nu 13:22) a great and tall people, the children of the Anakites,

whom you know and of whom you have heard it said,

"Who can stand before the children of Anak?"

3 (Dt 4:24; Jos 3:11) Understand therefore today that the Lord your God

is He who goes over before you as a consuming fire. He shall destroy

them and shall bring them down before you, so that you drive them out

and destroy them quickly, as the Lord has spoken to you.

4 (Dt 8:17; 12:31) Do not say in your heart, after the Lord your God

has driven them out before you,

"On account of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess

this land," but it is because of the wickedness of these nations

the Lord is driving them out before you.

5 (Titus 3:5; Ge 12:7) It is not because of your righteousness

or the uprightness of your heart that you enter to possess their land,

but because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God

drives them out before you, and that He may fulfill the word which

the Lord swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

6 (Dt 9:13; 10:16) Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God

is not giving you this good land to possess on account of your

righteousness, for you are a stubborn people.

ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able

to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

[13] Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in

faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

[14] That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost

which dwelleth in us.



A group of twenty-two Christian leaders traveled half a day to secretly meet

and learn from a pastor who came from another country. If caught, the pastor

would be deported, and the others would spend three years in prison. Eighteen

of the twenty-two had already been imprisoned for their faith in Jesus.



After the pastor handed out fifteen Bibles he'd brought with him, one woman

gave hers to someone else. Like many others, she'd memorised chapters

of Scripture so she would have its wisdom secured in her heart if she were to

go to prison. She later asked the pastor to pray that their church would be

free to gather just like his. Instead, marveling at how they sacrificed,

suffered persecution, and risked imprisonment, he prayed that his church

would be just like theirs.



Believers around the world are persecuted for their faith in Christ, some more

severely than others. And all believers can be tempted to cower when the

stakes of living for Christ are raised. But the Holy Spirit enables us to use

our God-given gifts with "power, love and self-discipline" (2 Timothy 1:7).

God will help us share the gospel with boldness and compassion, wherever He

leads. Because of all He did for us (vv. 9-10), we can embrace the sacrificial

cost of commitment to Christ and preserve "sound teaching, with faith and love

in Christ Jesus" (v. 13).

Week 2 - Saved by Grace - Day 5 - Starting Over



2 Cor 5:17



17 (Jn 3:3; Ro 16:7) Therefore, if any man is in Christ,

he is a new creature. Old things have passed away.

Look, all things have become new.



17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:

old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.



"The trouble with turning over a new leaf," Gordon sighed,

"is that once you've done it twice, you're right back where

you started." Gordon, in his mid-fifties, had his job

"canceled" by a company wanting to cut back on retirement payments.

Out of work, with few prospects, he said wistfully,

"I wish I had the chance to start over again."

Many of us would echo Gordon's sentiments. Whether we have lost a job,

gone through a divorce, moved to another part of the country, or

experienced some lesser crisis, we often long for the chance to

begin again, fresh, without the shadow of past mistakes following us.

God's word offers just such an opportunity. Anyone who is in Christ,

Paul says in 2 Cor 5:17, is a "new creation". For the Christian, the past

is truly past - "all things are become new". In the forgiveness

and restoration of God's grace we can leave the past behind,

with all its mistakes, and enter into new life.

And the promise is not just for the newly saved. Those of us who

have been Christians for years need to hear the truth of 2 Cor 5:17 again,

for we accumulated some "new mistakes" since we came to Christ. Anyone who

is in Christ is a new creation; the freedom of forgiveness, of

"starting over" is available to all who call upon the name of the Lord.

We cannot every really "start over" simply by establishing New Year's

resolutions or turning over a new leaf. Only God gives us that opportunity;

his grace allows us to clear away the rubble of the past and begin again.

Everything becomes new in God's loving forgiveness.

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past

5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have

focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts

of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres

of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a

Christian school.

Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up

in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young

women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded.

Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.



Agree in prayer with us for:

- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart

and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing

Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.

- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the

spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into

converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.

- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more

to be raised up into effective witness.

- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon

to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for the Mamprusi of Ghana



Salisu knew that Islam meant peace and submission to Allah, but he

rarely saw this peace lived out. In reality, most people he knew were

plagued by fear of curses, enemies, retaliation and death.



Salisu studies in an Islamic academy but was unsatisfied by the

answers to his many questions. He struggled with the idea that Allah

would only accept prayers from someone who faced the Ka'aba to pray.



More than 450,000 Mamprusi reside in northern Ghana where Islam and

traditional African religions have formed a unique syncretism.



Salisu found a Bible and began to read. When he reached John 14, he

knew he had found his answers. The fact that Jesus died, rose again

and gives his followers a living hope were a sharp contrast to the

Suras in the Qur'an that talk about the death of the prophet of Islam

and his uncertainty about his eternal destiny.



When they heard about his beliefs, all of Salisu's friends and family,

including his ten siblings, were shocked. They tried everything to

dissuade him from following Jesus, but they were silenced by their

inability to answer his questions.



Now, Salisu often uses his knowledge of Islam to regularly share the

gospel with Muslim friends and countrymen and has seen fruit in his

witness. He believes the Bible offers answers to all the questions

asked by Muslims, the most important being the hope of eternal life.

He says, "Christ has completely transformed me and the anger I felt

against Christians has disappeared. I gladly share my story with

people of every faith. My heart is full of peace that has surpassed my

understanding."



How to Pray



Pray for the Mamprusi who are following Jesus. Many are suffering

and their lives are threatened. Some have lost their jobs and

property.

Pray that Mamprusi believers would support and encourage one

another.

Ask God to soften the heart of Mamprusi Muslims to hear the Gospel

and understand the truth about Jesus.



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

I often find myself frustrated with the physical limitations my body

has - pain, exhaustion, sore muscles, old injuries flaring up - and so I can

relate with what Paul says earlier in 1 Corinthians 5, "While we live in these

earthly bodies, we groan and sigh...” (v. 4). These bodies we live in now are

our temporary dwelling places, until we go home to be with the Lord; they are

constantly reminding us of their imperfections here on this earth.



We may not get our new bodies for many years yet, but thanks to Jesus'

incredible sacrifice, we get a new LIFE. 2 Corinthians 5:14 says,

"Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all

died to our old life." We don't live for ourselves any longer, but for

Christ - and what does that mean? "We are Christ’s ambassadors..." (v.20). An

ambassador is someone who represents another entity - we represent Christ to

those around us, and we are called to a mighty task with the new life he has

given us: reconciling people to God.



This is not something we do by our own power, but through the Holy Spirit in

us and the new identity we have in Jesus Christ who redeemed us. By His mercy

and love, you are now God's own child and co-heir with Christ (Eph. 1:11),

chosen and united with Christ (Eph. 1:11), God’s masterpiece (Eph. 2:10),

a citizen of heaven (Phil. 3:20), holy and blameless (Col. 1:22),

righteous (Phil. 1:11), and the temple of the living God (2 Cor. 6:16).



Jesus came to reconcile us to our Heavenly Father, and for those of us who

have been shown this love and accepted this priceless gift, how can we keep it

to ourselves? God longs for ALL people to be reconciled to him, and gives us a

new life through His Spirit to help us do so.

The Chosen People



1 Dt 4:38; 31:3When the Lord your God brings you into the land which

you are entering to possess and has driven out many nations before you,

the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites

and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites,

seven nations greater and mightier than you,

2 (Dt 23:14; Ex 23:32-33) and when the Lord your God delivers them

before you and you strike them down, then you must utterly destroy them.

You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.

3 (Ex 34:15-16; Jos 23:12-13) What is more, you shall not intermarry

with them. You shall not give your daughters to their sons

or take their daughters for your sons.

4 (Dt 6:15) For they will turn your sons away from following Me

to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord will be inflamed

The Greatest Commandment

teach you, so that you may observe them in the land which

you are crossing over to possess,

in order to keep all His statutes and His commandments which

I command you-you, and your son, and your grandson-all the

days of your life, so that your days may be prolonged.

3 (Ex 3:8; Ge 15:5) Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do it,

so that it may be well with you and so that you may multiply greatly,

as the Lord the God of your fathers has promised you in the land that

flows with milk and honey.

The Ten Commandments

Ex 20:1-17

3 The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us,

we who are living now and here today.

mountain did burn with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your

tribes, and your elders.

24 (Ex 19:19; Dt 4:33) You said, "See, the Lord our God has shown us

His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from

the midst of the fire. We have seen this day that God speaks with man,

yet he lives.

25 (Dt 18:16) Now, therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will

consume us. If we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more,

then we will die.

26 (Dt 4:33) For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice

of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have,

and lived?

27 (Ex 20:19) Go near and hear all that the Lord our God will say.

Then speak to us all that the Lord our God will speak to you,

and we will hear and do it."

Conclusion:



Pray to the Lord and pray to walk in the ways of the Lord in obedience.



Pray to the Lord: "Dear Father, thank You for Your forgiveness.

I'm coming home to You. "



Pray to the Lord and pray to know Jesus as the only Source of Forgiveness.

Agree in prayer with us for:

- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart

- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the

spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into

converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.

- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more

to be raised up into effective witness.

- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon

to spread and grow to other cities.



Pray that the Gospel would reach the remote areas of Tajikistan.

Ask the Lord for His protection and strength for believers in a

challenging spiritual climate.

* Pray that these believers would shine like a light to others and

that their ministry would bear fruit.

God's new work often begins with an announcement - and a gap ... A declaration

of what He is doing, and a gap between what we can imagine and what He intends

to accomplish.



When God speaks through Habakkuk, He makes it clear: what's coming will

stretch faith. It will exceed expectations. And it won't fit neatly inside

existing categories. That’s exciting and unsettling. We love the idea of God

doing something new - until it requires movement before full understanding.



This is where faith becomes obedience.



God rarely reveals the whole plan. He reveals the next step. Obedience isn't

about certainty - it's about trust. It’s choosing to move forward when clarity

is partial but God's character is certain. God's people don't step into new

seasons by having all the answers; they step in by saying yes.



Here's the tension: God's work may exceed our imagination, but it still

requires participation. Faith isn't passive. It responds. It risks. It acts.

Often, the greatest barrier to God's new work isn't opposition - it's

hesitation.



Fasting and prayer sharpen this moment. They quiet competing voices and expose

delayed obedience. Courage isn't the absence of fear; it's refusing to let

fear decide. When God says now, delay becomes disobedience disguised

as wisdom.



You don't need the full picture.

You need to take the next faithful step.

Acts 13:38



38 (Lk 24:47; Ac 2:38) "Therefore, brothers, let it be known

to you that through this Man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,"

that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:



At age 17 Mary, a cross-country runner, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

She went on to college, faced with the prospect of gradual physical decline

and, ultimately, life in a wheelchair. "The worst part," Mary admitted "is

not the pain or the inability to do what I once did. The worst part is

the hopelessness, the emotional struggle. There is no cure, no real

treatment - only insurance."

In our fallen world, there are many incurable circumstances we have to endure.

But the guilt of our sin is not one of them. Yet despite the declaration

of the Scripture that Jesus' sacrificial death paid the price for our sins,

many of us carry a load of guilt - as if we ourselves had tp pay the price.

Paul, a man who know the grace of God and the depth of his own sin,

emphasises the source and the completeness of our forgiveness.

Through Jesus - not through my good behaviour, not through my determination to

change, not through my reputation, my family's faith, or my religious duties.

Forgiveness of sins come through Christ alone, a gift we do not deserve,

a gift which places all of us on equal ground at the foot of the cross.

To acknowledge our sin without knowing the source of forgiveness only

results in hopelessness and despair - we see ourselves, yet we are powerless

to change the sin we see. But when we realise that Christ has provided

complete forgiveness of sin, we can face our sin honestly, knowing

the freedom of confession and the restoration of forgiveness.

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past

5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have

focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts

of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres

of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a

Christian school.

Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up

in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young

women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded.

converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.

- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more

to be raised up into effective witness.

- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon

to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for Tajikistan



Mari lives high up in the mountains in a remote region of Tajikistan.

At the beginning of summer, the women go to prepare the summer pasture

with the men arriving a week later with cows, sheep and goats. Only a

handful of shepherds stay with the herds and flocks. The rest return

to the village, and they see and hear nothing of the shepherds until

harvest time.



For the past few summers, a visitor has come to Mari's village. Since

she is the head of the community, he always comes to her house first.

"Last summer he offered me a book," Mari says. "This man is always

kind and wants to help my village, so I accepted his gift. I had

completed my schooling in the local school, so I was excited to read

this book."



Mari began to read the book right away, and to her surprise, found

that it was written in a way that was easy to understand. She read it

many times and read it to her family. They wanted to hear the stories

many times. "My heart warmed to the central character in all these

stories, a man called Jesus. I was growing to love him."



The following summer the traveler returned once again. Mari welcomed

him into her home and told him, "I love Jesus."

He looked surprised. "How do you know him?" he asked.



"Do you remember the book you gave me last year, the one called

Khushkhabar {Good News}, that told the story of Jesus? I've read it

many times and to my family as well. We believe in Jesus. Every night

I read this book aloud and we are telling everyone in the village

about Jesus."



How to Pray



Pray that the Gospel would reach the remote areas of Tajikistan.

Ask the Lord for His protection and strength for believers in a

challenging spiritual climate.

* Pray that these believers would shine like a light to others and

that their ministry would bear fruit.



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

Deuteronomy 4



[15] Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of

similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst

of the fire:

[16] Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude

of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

Cities of Refuge

41 (Nu 35:6) Then Moses set apart three cities across the Jordan,

42 that the manslayer might flee there, that is, anyone who killed

his neighbor unintentionally without hating him in time past

could flee to one of these cities and live:

43 (Jos 20:8) Bezer in the wilderness in the plateau of the Reubenites,

and Ramoth in Gilead of the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan of the Manassites.



[41] Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the

sunrising;

unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of

these cities he might live:

Introduction to the Law



44 This is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel.

The Wild One is a 1953 movie starring Marlon Brando as Johnny Strabler, a

troubled, brooding leader of a motorcycle gang. In one scene, a young woman

notices a gang member's jacket with the initials, B.R.M.C. When she learns

that the R stands for "rebels," she laughs and touches the arm of Brando as he

idly pats a drum. "Hey, Johnny. What are you rebelling against?" He replies,

"What do you got?"



What an apt description of our problem! We're born with a drive to assert

ourselves. We want to be in charge, preferably by getting our way. If that

doesn't work, we'll assert ourselves by dragging our feet.

The rebellion is the point.



Why did Israel foolishly worship idols of "stone and wood" (Jeremiah 3:9)?

And why did Israel's "unfaithful sister Judah" only pretend to return

to God (v. 10)? Because that's how they expressed their

independence - "the stubbornness of their evil hearts" (v. 17).

The rebellion was the point.



But God's love is stronger. Jesus died for rebels and leaves the door open

for their return. " 'Return, faithless Israel,' declares the Lord, 'I will

frown on you no longer, for I am faithful . . . . Only acknowledge your

guilt - you have rebelled against the Lord your God' " (vv. 12-13).



We may be born rebels, but we can return. Let's run home to our Father,

where we find His forgiveness, love, and help.

Moses Commands Obedience



1 (Dt 8:1; Eze 20:11) Now therefore, listen, O Israel, to the statutes

and to the judgments which I am teaching you to do, so that you may live;

and go in and possess the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers,

is giving you.

2 (Dt 12:32; Jos 1:7) You shall not add to the word which I am commanding

you, nor shall you take anything from it, so that you may keep

the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

3 (Nu 25:1-9) Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the

Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men

who followed Baal of Peor.

Idolatry Forbidden

and Og, the king of Bashan, came out against us, he and all his people,

to battle at Edrei.

2 (Nu 21:23-25) Then the Lord said to me, "Do not fear him, for I will

deliver him and all his people and his land into your hand; and you

shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived

at Heshbon."

3 (Nu 21:35) So the Lord, our God, delivered Og, the king of Bashan,

with all his people, into our hands also, and we struck him down until

there was no survivor remaining.

4 (1Ki 4:13) We took all his cities at that time. There was not a city which

we did not take from them: sixty cities, all the region of Argob,

the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

5 All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars,

Division of the Land



12 (Dt 2:36; Nu 32:32-38) This is the land which we possessed at that time

from Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, and half the hill country of Gilead

and its cities I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13 (Nu 32:39-42) The rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og,

I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh. (All the region of Argob,

with all Bashan, was called the land of giants.

14 (Nu 32:41; Jos 13:13; 2Sa 3:3) Jair, the son of Manasseh,

took all the region of Argob, that is, Bashan, as far as the border

of the Geshurites and the Maakathites, and called the villages

after his own name, Havvoth Jair, as it is to this day.)

All you men of valor shall pass over armed before your brothers,

the children of Israel.

19 But your wives and your little ones, and your livestock

(for I know that you have much livestock)

shall remain in your cities which I have given you

20 (Jos 22:4) until the Lord has given rest to your brothers,

as well as to you, and until they also possess the land which

the Lord your God has given them beyond the Jordan.

Then each of you shall return to his possession which I have given you."

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past

5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have

focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts

of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres

of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a

Christian school.

Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up

in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young

women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded.

Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.



Agree in prayer with us for:

- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart

and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing

Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.

- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the

spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into

converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.

- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more

to be raised up into effective witness.

- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon

to spread and grow to other cities.

Pray for the Millet of Bulgaria



If you ask the Turkish-speaking Millet of Bulgaria, they will tell you

they don't know where they came from. The `Ottoman' Turks within

Bulgaria say they are not Turkish; the Roma of Bulgaria insist they

are not Roma. But there are more than 300,000 of this Muslim people

group living in Bulgaria.



The Millet experience severe marginalization, often living in

segregated neighborhoods. But not only does God know them; many Millet

now have a living relationship with God.



In the late 1980s and lasting through the mid-1990s, an awakening

broke out amongst the Millet, which God confirmed by many signs and

wonders. Thousands left Islam to follow Jesus and more than a hundred

churches were started.



Rahim was a city bus driver whose wife became very ill. There was no

adequate medicine or care for a Millet living in squalor so eventually

she died. The neighbourhood women came and began their wailing. The

noise and crying became unbearable for Rahim so he went outside,

despairing of how he would care for his children. After two hours of

mental agitation, he cried out the prayer that desperate Muslims often

direct to Jesus: "Ey Isa! Ey Isa!"



Rahim returned home a short time later and instead of wailing, there

was excited stirring: his wife was sitting upright, very much alive!

As Rahim gave glory to Jesus, his entire street believed. Many came

asking for prayer and they were often healed as well. A church was

started of people with no Biblical knowledge other than belief in a

Jesus who heals and a God who answers prayer.

How to Pray



Pray for more Millet people in Bulgaria to come to know Jesus.

Pray for the Millet believers in diaspora who now number more than

those still in Bulgaria. Ask God to use their passion for Jesus to

inspire others.

Pray for theological training opportunities for Millet pastors,

many of whom have had little education.

Pray that the youth in believing Millet families would make their

own personal commitments to Jesus.



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

The promise in Isaiah 54:2-3 came to Israel post-exile, symbolising

restoration and expansion after barrenness. God invites His people to prepare

for abundance, not in complacency, but in active faith.



This applies to money and finance as a call to faithful expansion under God's

sovereignty. Financially, "enlarging your tent" means stepping out in

obedience to grow resources - starting a business, saving diligently,

or investing wisely - while trusting God's provision (Philippians 4:19). We

often "hold back" due to fear of failure or scarcity mindset, but Scripture

urges boldness: strengthen stakes through education, debt reduction,

and ethical practices (Proverbs 21:5). Spreading "to the right and left"

echoes God's blessing on Abraham (Genesis 22:17), reminding us that wealth is

for generational impact, dispossessing "desolate cities" through gospel

advancement and poverty alleviation.



We emphasise stewardship: money isn't ours, but God's (Psalm 24:1). Like the

parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), we're called to multiply what He's

given, not bury it. Expansion isn't selfish ambition, but preparing for God's

outpouring - perhaps increased income for ministry or family legacy.



If finances feel confined, hear God's command: enlarge! Pray for vision, act

prudently, and anchor in faith. As you stretch, He'll fill the space with His

glory.

so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

15 (1Ki 20:35) For this we say to you by the word of the Lord,

that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord

will not precede those who are asleep.

16 (1Co 15:23; Jude 1:9) For the Lord Himself will descend

from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,

and with the trumpet call of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 (Jn 12:26; Ac 1:9) Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up

It began with an email a grieving father sent to me. He had lost his daughter

Alyssa - a college junior - in a car accident, and he needed to hear from

someone who understood his wrenching pain.



Nearly three hundred emails and four years later, Craig and I were finally

able to meet in person. His job had taken him to a nearby city, so on a Sunday

we shared a church service, lunch, and memories of our daughters: Melissa

and Alyssa - two girls who'd made other people happy, enjoyed volleyball,

loved Jesus, and innocently lost their lives in car accidents.



What was the essence of our conversation that day? We discussed our sadness.

And we cried. But mostly we spoke of hope. True, authentic hope based on God's

promises. "We do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death,

so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope," the

apostle Paul explained. "For we believe that Jesus died and rose again,

and . . . God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him"

(1 Thessalonians 4:13-14). For the believer, beyond the grave

is life - life eternal.



Craig and I ended the day by praying and thanking God that our daughters

are secure in His loving arms. The shared love of Jesus binds hearts

and gives hope in otherwise hopeless situations.

Week 2 - Saved by Grace - Day 3 - The Remedy



Acts 4:12

by which we must be saved."

"You have cancer", the doctor told his patient. "We need to operate

- as soon as possible. It's the only remedy." The patient, not wanting

to undergo surgery unless it was absolutely necessary, sought out a second

opinion, then a third. When the third round of testing came up with the same

results, she returned to the doctor and submitted herself to the treatment.

Often the remedy for the problems in our lives seems worst than the problems

themselves. We don't want to endure the pain of self-examination, of honest

confrontation with our sin and selfishness. We'd rather live in "blissful

ignorance" than face up to ourselves.

But the Bible tells us there is only one remedy for sin: casting ourselves

upon the saving grace of God in Jesus Christ. Submitting ourselves to God's

"treatment" for sin is not an easy matter or a simple decision. We have to

give up on ourselves, on our own striving for self-salvation. We have to come

to the agonising realisation of our sin, the depths to which we have fallen.

Acknowledging sin is not a duty simply for "bad" people who have lived in

rebellion against God. "Good" people - Sunday-school kids, moral parents,

and sweet little grandmothers - may have more difficulty coming to Christ

than swindlers and prostitutes, precisely because their sin is not as

visible - sometimes it is even applauded by church and society.

"Good" or "bad", we all have the same problem: sin. And, because

of the Lord's grace, we all have the same remedy: salvation through Christ.

As we look to him, not to others, and see ourselves in light of his holiness,

we can glimpse the seriousness of our own resistance to him and call upon

his name.
