Matthew 16:13-20



13 (Lk 9:18-20; Mt 8:20) When Jesus came into the region of Caes­area

Philippi, He asked His disciples, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"

14 (Mt 14:2; Mk 6:15) They said, "Some say that You are John the Baptist,

others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

16 (Ps 42:2; Jn 11:27) Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ,

the Son of the living God."

17 (Gal 1:16; Jn 1:42; 21:15-17) Jesus answered him,

"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood

has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

18 (Jn 1:42; Job 38:17) And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock

I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Luke 19:9a

Jesus and Zacchaeus



1 (Lk 18:35) Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

2 A man was there named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector,

and he was rich.

3 (Jn 12:21) He tried to see who Jesus was, but was not able

from the crowd, because he was little in stature.

4 (1Ki 10:27; 1Ch 27:28) So he ran ahead and climbed up into

a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was to pass that way.

unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at

Ephesians 2:10

Luke 19:7



7 (Mt 9:11; Lk 15:2) When they saw it, they all murmured, saying,

"He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner."



[7] And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be

guest with a man that is a sinner.



Why murmur when you are a sinner too?



1 Timomty 1:15



15 (1Ti 3:1; 2Ti 2:11) This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance,

that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst.



[15] This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ

Revelation 3:20



20 Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice

and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.

open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Daniel 4

Nebuchadnezzar's Second Dream

1 (Da 6:25; 3:4) Nebuchadnezzar the king,

to all peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth:

Peace be multiplied to you.

2 (Da 3:26) I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that

the Most High God has done for me.

3 (Da 2:44; Ps 105:27) How great are His signs,

and how mighty are His wonders!

His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

and His dominion is from generation to generation.

4 (Isa 47:7-8) I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house,

and flourishing in my palace.

5 (Da 2:1) I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed

and the visions of my head troubled me.

6 (Da 2:2) Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon

before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

7 (Isa 44:25; Jer 27:9-10) Then came in the magicians, the astrologers,

the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers, and I told the dream before them;

but they did not make known to me its interpretation.

8 (Da 1:7; 4:18) But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name

was Belteshazzar according to the name of my god and in whom is the Spirit

of the Holy God, and before him I told the dream, saying,

9 (Da 2:48; 5:11) "Belte­shazzar, master of the magicians, because I know

that the Spirit of the Holy God is in you and no secret troubles you,

tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.

10 (Da 4:5) Now these were the visions of my mind while on my bed:

I saw a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great.

11 (Dt 9:1; Da 4:21-22) The tree grew and became strong, and its height

reached heaven, and it was visible to the end of all the earth.

12 (Eze 17:23; La 4:20) Its leaves were fair, and its fruit much,

and in it was food for all. The animals of the field had shadow under it,

and the fowl of the heavens lived in its boughs, and all flesh

was fed of it.

13 (Dt 33:2; Da 7:1) "I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed,

and there was a holy watcher coming down from heaven.

14 (Mt 3:10; Eze 31:12--3) He cried aloud and said thus:

'Hew down the tree and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves

and scatter its fruit. Let the animals get away from under it,

and the fowl from its branches.

15 (Job 14:7-9) Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth,

even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field.

" 'And let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let its portion be

with the animals in the grass of the earth.

16 (Da 4:23; 4:25) Let its heart be changed from that of a man,

let him be given the heart of an animal. And let seven periods

of time pass over it.

17 (Da 4:25; 1Sa 2:8; Jer 27:5-7) " 'This matter is by the decree

of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones,

in order that the living may know that the Most High rules

over the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He wills

and sets up over it the basest of men.'

18 (Ge 41:8; Da 5:8) "This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen.

Now you, Belteshazzar, tell its interpretation to me, because

all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known

to me the interpretation. But you are able, for the Spirit of the Holy God

is in you."



Daniel Interprets the Dream



19 (Da 7:28; 8:27) Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished

for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke and said,

"Belteshazzar, do not let the dream, or its interpretation, trouble you."

Belteshazzar answered and said, "My lord, if only the dream was for those

who hate you, and its interpretation for your enemies!

20 (Da 4:10-12) The tree that you saw, which grew and became strong,

whose height reached to the heavens, and was visible to all the earth,

21 and whose leaves were fair, and its fruit much, and in it was food

for all, under which the animals of the field lived,

and upon whose branches the fowl of the heavens had their habitation:

22 (2Sa 12:7; Da 2:37-38) It is you, O king, who have grown

and become strong. Your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven,

and your dominion to the ends of the earth.

23 (Da 5:21) "Whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down

from heaven and saying, 'Cut the tree down and destroy it, yet

leave the stump of its roots in the ground, even with a band of iron

and bronze, in the tender grass of the field. And let it be wet

with the dew of heaven, and let its portion be with the animals

of the field until seven periods of time pass over it'-

24 (Ps 107:40; Job 40:11-12) "This is the interpretation, O king,

and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon

my lord the king:

25 (Da 4:17; Ps 83:18; Jer 27:5) You shall be driven away from men,

and your dwelling shall be with the wild animals.

You shall be given grass to eat like oxen, and wet with the dew of heaven.

And seven times shall pass over you, until you have learned that

the Most High rules over the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever

He chooses.

26 (Da 4:15) Inasmuch as they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots,

your kingdom shall be assured to you after you acknowledge that Heaven rules.

27 (1Ki 21:29; Isa 55:6-7) Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable

to you, and break off your sins by righteousness and your iniquities

by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a lengthening

of your prosperity.



The Dream Is Fulfilled



28 (Nu 23:19; Zec 1:6) All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.

29 At the end of twelve months he walked on the roof of the palace

of the kingdom of Babylon.

30 (Isa 37:24-25) The king spoke, saying, "Is this not Babylon the Great

that I myself have built as a royal residence by my mighty power

and for the honor of my majesty?"

31 (Lk 12:20) While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice

from heaven: "O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom

has departed from you!

32 (Da 5:21) And you shall be driven away from men, and your dwelling

shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be given grass

to eat as oxen, and seven periods of time shall pass over

you until you know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men

and gives it to whomever He wills."

33 (Da 4:25; 4:32) Immediately the thing was fulfilled concerning

Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men and ate grass as oxen,

and his body was wet with the dew of heaven until his hairs were grown

like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws.



Nebuchadnezzar Praises God



34 (Jer 10:10; Da 12:7) But at the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar,

lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me,

and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored Him who lives forever:

For His dominion is an everlasting dominion,

and whose kingdom endures from generation to generation.

35 (Ps 115:3; 135:6; Job 42:2) And all the inhabitants of the earth

are reputed as nothing;

and He does according to His will

in the army of heaven

and among the inhabitants of the earth.

And no one can stay His hand or say to Him,

"What have You done?"

36 (Pr 22:4; 2Ch 33:12-13) At the same time my reason returned to me.

And for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me.

And my counselors and my lords sought me out. Then I was established

in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.

37 (Dt 32:4; Ex 18:11) Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol

and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true

and His ways just, and those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

[10] Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree

[11] The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto

heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

[12] The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was

meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of

the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.

[13] I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and

declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my

kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art

able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

[19] Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour,

and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let

not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar

answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the

interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

[20] The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height

reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

[21] Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat

for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches

the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:

[22] It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness

is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

[23] And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from

heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump

of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in

the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and

let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over

him;

[24] This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most

High, which is come upon my lord the king:

[25] That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the

beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they

shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee,

till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth

it to whomsoever he will.

[26] And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy

kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the

heavens do rule.

[27] Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break

off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the

poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

[28] All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

[29] At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of

Babylon.

[30] The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built

for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of

my majesty?

[31] While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven,

saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed

from thee.

[32] And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the

beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven

times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the

kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

[33] The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was

driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the

dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his

nails like birds' claws.

[34] And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto

heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most

High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is

an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

[35] And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he

doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the

inhabitants

of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

[36] At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my

kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellers and

my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent

majesty was added unto me.

[37] Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven,

all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in

pride he is able to abase.



Ezekiel 38



A Prophecy Against Gog



1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

2 (Eze 39:1; Ge 10:2; Eze 27:13) Son of man, set your face against Gog

of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshek and Tubal,

[mostly likely Russia, Moscow and Tbilisi]

and prophesy against him,

3 (Eze 13:8) and say: Thus says the Lord God: I am against you, O Gog,

the prince of Rosh, Meshek and Tubal.

4 (Eze 29:4; 38:15) And I will turn you back and put hooks into your jaws,

and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses, and horsemen,

all of them clothed with all sorts of armor, even a great company

with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords.

[Please note, the modern Russian army derived from the Soviet Era

is still powerful]

5 (Eze 27:10; Ge 10:6; Eze 30:5) Persia, Ethiopia, and Put with them,

all of them with shield and helmet. [Iran, Libya and Ethopia will be part

this alliance]

6 (Ge 10:2-3; Eze 27:14) I will do so to Gomer and all its troops,

Beth Togarmah of the north quarters and all its troops,

and many peoples with you. [Eastern Europe or most likely the

old Khazer kingdom]

7 (Isa 8:9-10) Be prepared and prepare yourself, you and all your companies

that are assembled to you, and be a guard to them.

8 (Isa 24:22; Eze 38:16) After many days you shall be called. In the latter

years you shall come into the land that is restored from the sword,

whose inhabitants have been gathered out of many peoples,

against the mountains of Israel which had been always a waste.

But its people were brought out of the nations, and they, all of them,

are dwelling safely.

9 (Isa 28:2; Jer 4:13) You shall ascend and come like a storm;

you shall be like a cloud to cover the land, you and all your troops,

and many peoples with you.

10 (Ps 36:4; Mic 2:1) Thus says the Lord God: It shall come to pass

on that day that things shall come into your mind and you shall think

an evil thought,

11 (Zec 2:4-5) and you shall say, "I will go up against the land

of unwalled villages. I will go against those who are at rest,

that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls

and having neither bars nor gates,"

12 (Isa 10:6; Eze 29:19) to take spoil and to seize prey,

to turn your hand against the desolate places that are now inhabited,

and against the people who are gathered out of the nations,

who have obtained livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst

of the world.

13 (Eze 27:15; 27:12) Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish

with all its villages shall say to you, "Have you come to take spoil?

Have you gathered your company to seize prey, to carry away silver

and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great spoil?"

14 (Eze 38:8; 38:11) Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog:

Thus says the Lord God: On that day when My people of Israel dwell safely,

shall you not know it?

15 (Eze 39:2; 38:6) And you shall come from your place out of the north parts,

you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company

and a mighty army.

16 (Eze 38:23; 36:23) And you shall come up against My people of Israel

as a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the latter days

that I will bring you against My land so that the nations

may know Me when I shall be sanctified in you, O Gog, before their eyes.



Ezekiel 38

[1] And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

[2] Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief

prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

[3] And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold I am against thee, O Gog, the

chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

[4] And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring

thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed

with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields,

all of them handling swords:

[5] Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and

helmet:

[6] Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters,

and all his bands: and many people with thee.

[7] Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company

that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

[8] After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt

of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always

waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell

safely all of them.

[9] Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to

cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

[10] Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same

time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:

[11] And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I

will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling

without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

[12] To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the

gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell

gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take

away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not

know it?

[15] And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and

many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and

a mighty army:

[16] And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover

the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my

land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O

Gog, before their eyes.



Judgment on Gog



17 (Isa 34:1-6; 63:1-6) Thus says the Lord God: Are you he of whom

I have spoken in former days by My servants the prophets of Israel,

who prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring

you against them?

18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog comes against

the land of Israel, says the Lord God, that My fury shall come up in My anger.

19 (Hag 2:6-7; Eze 5:13) For in My jealousy and in the fire

of My wrath I have spoken: Surely in that day there shall be

a great earthquake in the land of Israel.

20 ( Hos 4:3; Na 1:4-6) The fish of the sea and the fowl of the heavens

and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep upon the earth

and all the men who are upon the face of the earth shall shake at My presence,

and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall,

and every wall shall fall to the ground.

21 (Jdg 7:22; 1Sa 14:20) I will call for a sword

against him on all My mountains,

says the Lord God. Every man's sword shall be against his brother.

22 (Ps 11:6; Isa 66:16) I will enter into judgment with him with pestilence

and with blood. And I will rain upon him and upon his troops

and upon the many peoples who are with him, an overflowing rain and hailstones,

fire and brimstone.

Ezekiel 39



The Destruction of Gog's Armies



1 (Eze 38:2-3) Moreover you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say:

Thus says the Lord God: I am against you, O Gog,

prince of Rosh, Meshek, and Tubal.

2 (Eze 38:15) And I will turn you back, drive you on, and take you up

the north parts and bring you against the mountains of Israel.

3 (Ps 76:3; Hos 1:5) And I will strike your bow out of your left hand

and will cause your arrows to fall out of your right hand.

4 (Eze 33:27; 39:17-20) You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel,

you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you.

I will give you to the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts

of the field to be devoured.

5 You shall fall upon the open field. For I have spoken, says the Lord God.

6 (Eze 30:8; Jer 25:22) I will send a fire on Magog and among those who dwell

safely in the coastlands. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.

7 (Eze 38:16; 38:23) So I will make My holy name known in the midst

of My people Israel. And I will not let them pollute My holy name anymore.

And the nations shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.

8 (Eze 38:17) It is coming and it shall be done, says the Lord God.

This is the day of which I have spoken.

9 (Ps 46:9; Jos 11:6) Those who dwell in the cities of Israel shall go

and make fires with the weapons and burn them, both the shields

and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the war clubs

and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire for seven years.

The Burial of Gog



11 It shall come to pass in that day that I will give to Gog a place

of graves there in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east

of the sea, and it shall stop the passengers. And there they shall bury Gog

and all his multitude, and they shall call it the Valley of Hamon Gog.

12 (Dt 21:23; Eze 39:14) For seven months the house of Israel shall be burying

them so that they may cleanse the land.

[If the elimination of the army is nuclear, it will a

big mess to clean up]

13 (Eze 28:22; Jer 33:9) Indeed, all the people of the land shall bury them.

And it shall be their renown on the day that I shall be glorified,

says the Lord God.

14 They shall separate men who continually pass through the land

to bury the passengers, even those who remain upon the face of the earth,

to cleanse it.

After the end of seven months they shall search.

15 As the passengers pass through the land and anyone sees a man's bone,

then he shall set up a sign by it until the buriers have buried it

in the Valley of Hamon Gog.

16 Also the name of the city shall be Hamonah.

Thus they shall cleanse the land.

17 (Zep 1:7; Jer 12:9; Eze 39:4) As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord

God: Speak to every kind of fowl and to every beast of the field:

Assemble and come. Gather on every side to My sacrifice that I sacrifice

for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that you may

eat flesh and drink blood.

18 (Ps 22:12; Jer 51:40) You shall eat the flesh of the mighty

and drink the blood of the officials of the earth as though of rams,

of lambs, and of goats, of bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan.

19 You shall eat fat until you are full and drink blood until you are drunk

from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.

20 (Rev 19:18; Ps 76:5-6) Thus you shall be filled at My table with horses

and chariots, with mighty men, and with all the men of war, says the Lord God.

21 (Ex 9:16; Isa 37:20) I will set My glory among the nations,

and all the nations shall see My judgment that I have executed,

and My hand that I have laid upon them.

22 (Jer 24:7; Eze 39:28) So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord

their God from that day and forward.

23 (Isa 1:15; 59:2) The nations shall know that the house of Israel

went into captivity for their iniquity because they trespassed against Me,

and I hid My face from them. And I gave them into the hand of their enemies,

and all of them fell by the sword.

24 (Jer 2:17; 2:19) According to their uncleanness and according

to their transgressions, I have done to them and hid My face from them.



[11] And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a

The Restoration of Israel



25 (Isa 27:12-13; Eze 34:13) Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy

on the whole house of Israel and will be jealous for My holy name.

26 (1Ki 4:25; Mic 4:4) They shall forget their shame and all their trespasses

by which they have trespassed against Me when they lived safely in their land

and no one made them afraid.

27 (Eze 36:23-24; 38:16) When I have brought them back from the peoples

Little Children Blessed

13 (Mt 19:13-15; Mk 10:48) They brought young children to Him,

that He might touch them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, He was very displeased and said to them,

"Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them,

for of such is the kingdom of God.

15 (Mt 18:3; Lk 18:17) Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive

the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter it."

16 (Mk 9:36) And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them,

and blessed them.



[13] Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put

his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

[14] But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come

unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

[15] And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

[16] And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing

shall I do, that I may have eternal life?



"Oh, you look so serious!" I said to my ten-week-old granddaughter Leilani.

She was studying my face with a knitted brow as I talked to her. "I'd be

serious too," I continued, "looking at this world. But you know what?

Mama loves you, Daddy loves you, and Baba and Papa [our nicknames

as grandparents] love you too. But best of all, Jesus loves you!

And that means everything!"



Then it happened. Like a cloud letting the sun through, the furrow left her

brow and her little face lit up with a smile that melted my heart. Like most

grandparents, I'd like to believe she understood me, though that may be

a stretch. But perhaps she caught some of the joy behind my words. The simple,

innocent joy that shone on her face brought to mind Jesus' words that we must

"receive the kingdom of God like a little child" (Mark 10:15).



Jesus said those words as "people were bringing little children" to Him so

He might "place his hands on them" and bless them (vv. 13, 16).

But "the disciples rebuked them," thinking Jesus too busy or important.

That troubled Him (vv. 14-15).



Children are naturally humble and dependent. To receive God's kindness

to us in Christ, we too must turn from pride and admit our need for Him

in everything. As we do, He exchanges this world's hopelessness with

the promise of life with God forever. And that should make us smile.

John 8:12

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world:

he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness,

but shall have the light of life.



When Judy Garland stepped onstage, she filled the spotlight. Nothing was

illuminated but her face, and as she sang, her listeners had a sense of being

transported beyond themselves into the meaning of her song. The focus of

reality, at that moment, was "Judy", and everything else faded into the dim

recesses of the shadowed room. The spotlight brought her into sharp focus

as the center of attention, and all around her was darkness.

When the scriptures speaks of Jesus as "the light," the image is not

of thousands of blazing bulbs lighting up a football field for a night game.

Rather, he is like a hand-help lamp that throws a circle of light in the

immediate vicinity. such a lamp lights the path that a traveler will walk,

but lights it only one step at a time.

Jesus is the center of that circle of light. As we follow him, we share the

light, but he is always at center. Jesus Christ is the focal point,

and everything else fades into dim gray by comparison.

If we are to keep our lives illuminated, to have his light falling upon the

road we walk, we must stay close to him. Jesus does not hand the lamp

to us and suggest that we go the way he wants; he , the Light, leads,

and if we want to stay in the light, we follow.

Halifax is the centre of Muslim activity for the Province of Nova Scotia

Though the original community of Muslims was primarily composed of

newcomers from Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, continued immigration

has further diversified this community. Anf it is said thay Arabic

is the second most spoken language in Halifax.



while conservative estimates place the number of Muslims at almost 15000

in 2014, the Imama of a primary Halifax mosque estimates their population

somewhere between 25000 to 30000.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Jesus, I beleive You are the Son if God who died for my sins and rose again.
