Since Melissa hit the Press, other variants from 'ILoveYou' to 'AnnaKournikova' to 'SouthPark' to 'Klez' has found its way through the net causing untold damage.Recently, the Blaster virus proves that e-mail is not the only way to deliver viruses over the internet. Bugbear could cripple your hard drive and the writer(s) of this virus could comprimise your personal security. SoBig is the one where an admin might say you account is coming up for expiry. Dumaru is the one where someone claims to be a Microsoft security person mailing you a fix patch.

Whatever Antivirus Program you are using, it is vital that you configure your settings properly so that you are protected from viruses. For example, with AVG antivirus, you should configure the settings to update for new virus definitions daily. Because ther are so many new viruses coming out, your Antivirus program needs to be configured to get the latest protection on a daily basis. For Norton Anti-Virus, there is a programme called Live Update that keep your Norton Anti-Virus programme and other Norton Programmes up to date. For AVG antivirus, make sure that your settings are set up as follows: In the bottom, right hand screen of your computer, double-click on the AVG icon. Click on the "Update Manager" tab. In the "Allow Scheduled Updates" field, select "Update if database older than one (1) days". "If not successfull, then repeat in one (1) days". By configuring these settings as instructed, your Antivirus program will automatically check for new virus protection on a daily basis, and you will be protected from the latest viruses.
